The Roving Eye - Colonial Furniture

Thursday 20 October 2005

Over to Gordon, who’s going to take us back nearly 200 years, to the early colonial days, and a nice comfortable sit-down.

Early furniture makers substituted native cedar for their preferred mahogany.

One of the attributes of early colonial furniture is the plain style.

Colonial furniture styles were copies of English furniture styles.

Provenance is very important, as is the patina of the piece as both tell the story of the life it has had.
