This week’s Mystery Object is an early 1900s tool for cleaning a pipe, unblocking the pipe hole and tamping down the tobacco.
Gentlemen would often carry these on their person and the tools were sometimes more elaborate and made of silver, with scalpels for cutting tobacco.
The pipe cleaning tool was donated to Collectors for the Mystery Object segment by Mrs Tapner from New South Wales. It has now been passed on to the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery for their collection.
Mrs Tapner thought it was a snakebite kit.
