Steiff bears are identified by the button in their ear, but the bears owner Joy tells us that although this bear has a button in its ear, this one is blank.
From 1900 the buttons had Steiff written on them but for a brief period from about 1904 the buttons were left blank making this particular bear very precious. The jointing on the bear is also a telling factor metal rod joints are more favourable than the string or rope joints. Gordon suggests this bear might fetch about $12,000 -15,000.
