Under the hammer this week is an early hand-cranked washing machine. Justin notes that while there is no maker’s mark on this item, it is identical to the model at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney which was made in 1924 by Beatty Bros Ltd in Ontario, Canada. The company went on to produce the first agitator washing machine.
Justin points out that the washing machine has undergone some poor restoration on the outside which will affect the hammer price.
Bidding starts at $300
Niccole bids: $600
Gordon bids: $500
Adrian bids: $750
Although Adrian was still convinced the washing machine was worth more once the hammer fell, Gordon was right on the money this week. The washing machine sold for $500.
