Strahan on the west coast of Tasmania is home to Tut Ludby and his wife June. It’s also home to his wonderland of hand-made wooden creations.
While Tut estimates he has roughly 600 pieces, by the time he finishes building the ones in his workshop he says he’ll need to build a bigger showroom as well. Either that or he will have to have a burn up!
Tut believes we’re a throwaway nation these days and confesses to not tossing anything away if he can help it. Recycling is just part of his life. Tut can see art in just anything he picks up whether it’s a rusty piece of old metal or a fallen branch off a tree. He says it just depends on the mood you’re in and how much you use your imagination. You can turn a bit of wood into anything.
Tut’s wife is proud of her 250 garden gnomes. The people that come to see Tut’s wooden creations also enjoy her colourful collection, particularly the children she says, as the gnomes just seem to make you smile when you look at them.
