Under the hammer this week is a piece of fine pottery made by Marguerite Mahood in her backyard in Richmond, Victoria in 1950. One of the four pieces going to auction on this occasion is of a Brush Tail Possum in perfect condition. Only fifty of her pieces have come onto the market anywhere in the world in the past thirty years, so it is keenly sought after whenever it appears.
Justin admits this is one of the most highly desirable pieces of Australian pottery he has come across in a long, long time.
Bidding starts at $15,000
Niccole bids: $22,000
Gordon bids: $22,000
Adrian bids: $21,500
Once the panel hears the final price was $19,500, they agree it might have been higher if there werent three other pieces up for auction at the same time. Congratulations to Adrian this week.
