Adrian introduces this week’s Show and Tell items, a collection of vintage microphones sent into the website by Roger from Victoria.
Not only are these items exquisitely designed, they’re still used by some performers to recreate the particular sounds old microphones are capable of.
As Roger’s collection demonstrates vintage microphones came in a variety of interesting shapes and sizes. Early designs were not nearly as eye-catching as the later ones, but microphone manufacturers soon realised that their products were in the same spotlight as the famous stars and singers that used them, so designs improved.
Aside from their stylish looks, Adrian says another wonderful thing about vintage microphones is they aren’t expensive to collect. The pieces in Roger’s collection range in value between $100 and $350 each.
