This week’s Show & Tell item is a plain-looking travelling trunk from Charmaine in Tasmania. However a large sticker on its side suggests this was no ordinary trunk. Gordon offers to take a closer look to estimate its value.
The main point of interest is the writing that appears on the label which reads White Star Line and Titanic, 10/4/1912 which suggests the trunk was bound for one of most famous voyages in history.
However, after some research, Gordon discovers an identical image of the label that’s in newer condition. Furthermore it features exactly the same smudges and markings in the same places, except the label on Charmaine’s trunk has been specially treated to make it look old.
Unfortunately, rather than the historic voyage the trunk was suppose to have been taken on, the trunk’s most exciting journey was probably that to the Collectors studio. Gordon values it at $5.
