Margaret Bird collects all types of music boxes, but she particularly loves those with moving figurines and a Christmas theme.
15 years ago in England Margaret bought her first music box featuring a moving Christmas tree which is also an Advent calendar. The base of the music box features a series of drawers and inside each drawer is a different Christmas decoration to be placed on the tree one day at a time.
Margaret’s most treasured piece in her collection is a gorgeous music box featuring shelves on the inside of the doors that are filled with miniature toys, along with a ballerina and soldier that twirl around when the music is playing.
Some of the festive music boxes in Margaret’s collection tell the story of Santa preparing for Christmas. One has the elves preparing a new suit for him, another has him having his beard cut and his boots polished, and another shows him reading his naughty or nice list.
At last count she had over 50 music boxes, but that hasn’t stopped Margaret looking for those additional elusive models that are no longer made, and until she has them her collection will continue to grow.
