Episode 35, Friday 10 October 2008
Adrian looks at the exquisite “Strings across Time”, a comprehensive collection of Aboriginal shell necklaces. These have been made by Tasmanian Aboriginal women for thousands of years, the gathering, preparing and stringing being done only by women.
Today these are recognised as wonderful expressions of Indigenous art, are very collectable, and very valuable. But best of all, this cultural practise and knowledge has been passed down the generations, and is alive and well today.
