Episode 35, Friday 10 October 2008
Josh Marshall has been involved with snow virtually since the day he was born. He has done lot of skiing and snowboarding in his 20 year-life, particularly on Ben Lomond, one of Tasmania’s tallest peaks. His dad is a volunteer ski patroller.
Josh has a wonderful collection of snowmobiles dating from 1965 (the first ones were made in 1958) to 1989. All of them have been associated with the Tasmanian ski fields – either Ben Lomond or Mt Field, and some have worked in Antarctica. Josh has 17 snowmobiles so far, and each one has a story. He thinks he’s the only person to have a collection of this type in Australia.
So far Josh has not been able to restore the mobiles to concourse condition, partly because most of them need a lot of work, particularly the ex-Antarctic ones, which he found in the bush north of Hobart.
