Professor Adrian Franklin closes the “chair trilogy”, by bringing us to the end of the 20th century.

Here the designers include Verner Panton, Gerrit Rietveld, Frank Gehry, Mark Newson and Philippe Starck. They are very modern in their form and style, and mostly functional, some more than others. Newson’s Lockheed Lounge is definitely just for looking at, fair enough, given that the last one to go to auction fetched $1,000,000! They have become fashion statements, with new materials including laminates, plastics and even cardboard.
