Episode 38, Friday 31 October 2008
This mini-collection represents a formative time in Australia’s working-class history. Jack Howe (after whom the traditional blue athletic singlet is called, the Jackie Howe singlet) was Australia’s greatest-ever shearer. On October 10, 1892, he shore 321 sheep in 7 hours 40 minutes, a record that’s never been beaten.
The collection is two gold medals commemorating his efforts, and a fob shield that recognises his hard work for the Union movement. A gold chain and his fob watch complete the group.
Adrian bid $153,000
Niccole bid $135,000
Gordon bid $145,000
The hammer dropped at a stellar $300,000, so Adrian was closest, and although he was way off, as they all were, he claimed his effort to be a success!
