Episode 38, Friday 31 October 2008
This week Gordon Brown takes us to the beautiful and picturesque township of New Norfolk in Tasmania’s Derwent Valley, a historic spot that’s celebrating it’s bi-centenary.
After Hobart and Launceston, New Norfolk was the third town to be settled in Tasmania. In 1807 people from the Norfolk Island penal colony started coming to Van Diemen’s Land after offers of land and houses plus convict farm workers, food, clothing and stores. This is how the town was named.
It boasts an extraordinary number of antique dealerships and bric-a-brac shops. Gordon chats to the shop keepers and dealers, and uses his own extensive experience to show us what’s in vogue, and how to spot the real bargains.
