Murdoch Boyer Lecture: The Golden Age of Freedom03 November 2008 15:00

2008 BOYER LECTURES PRESENTED BY RUPERT MURDOCH

First Lecture: Aussie Rules: Bring back the Pioneer

Each year for over 40 years the ABC Board has invited a prominent Australian to present the Boyer Lectures - an opportunity to present their views on the great social, scientific and cultural issues of the moment. This year, the Boyers are being presented by the head of News Corporation, Rupert Murdoch. His subject? "The Golden Age of Freedom", and in this address, delivered at the Sydney Opera House, one of the world's most powerful men outlines his vision for how Australia can meet the challenges of the future.

In this first lecture, Rupert Murdoch sees a golden age on the horizon but he's concerned that Australia is ill-prepared to join it. He's warns that unless we reform what he calls our "19th century" education system we'll be left behind. And woe betide the bludgers, as Murdoch makes special mention of the dire consequences of "institutionalising idleness".

Just a little consolation to all those who have been hurt in any way by the dealings of this moneymonger Rupert Murdoch Just ask yourselves this Question

Where are all the following power mongers and Dictators

    Stalin
    Hitler
    Polpot
    mussolini
    Goebels
    Yasar Arafat
    idi Amin
    Hermann Goering
    Suharto
    General Augusto Pinochet
    chairman mao

    THEY ARE ALL DEAD
Wheredo you think they are now ????

The song says Your going out the same way you came in it doesn't matter where or what youve been Drive a Cadillac Deville
Live on a mansion on a hill
But your still going out the same way you came in

These pieces of human garbage came into the world with nothing and that's exactly what they will take with them when they leave

GOD will ask only one Question of each
What have you done for your fellow man while on earth

    WHAT CAN THEY ANSWER ????

Rupert is still in with a chance despite being 77 years old

Can you see him change his ways

Iwould dearly love to see him turn around his stupid lifestyle and become human again before it is too late

The Bible says quite clearly it is as easy for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven as it is for a camel to go through the eye of a needle

you should think about it Rupert old chap

    WHILE THERE IS STILL TIME
Because time waits for no man. Not even you Rupert despite your money

MONEY CAN BUY MANY THINGS BUT MONEY CANNOT BUY TIME

It is a scandal that a man with so little understanding of the issues has so much influence in the world.

What freedom? Freedom on paper, yes, but in practice freedom only carries you as far as your wallett allows.

Greeks have all the freedom you could think of since the Junta went out of office in 1974. But they cannot exercise it when they are unemployed and corruption rules the country more and more.

Rupert's freedom is also the freedom to corrupt and they exercise that one alright, in the US, Greece, Germany, and probably other places that I do not know of. Through the mercenary Brian Crozier Rupert had links with the British and American secret services, so whatever happens, Rupert's world propaganda department must not be lost and therefore is/has been supported by all
    corporations and governments.

Freedom is mostly used as the freedom of those in power to fleece the little people: I had no benefits of my inheritance in Berlin-Pankow under the communists and I got no benefit of this inheritance when freedom broke out in 1989, because the political class turned out to be of the same make in both systems.

Who is Murdoch trying to fool with 'freedom' - in 2008?

  • Thorn in Murdoch's side .. :

    09 Dec 2008 7:11:23pm

Reference the Auditor Generals Review No 44..
Chapter 11 - 11.3 and yes you guessed it he is using the old Showground for his Fox Studios Australia site .. Rent free .. He pocketed a handsome $80 rent for the film Australia .. and some!!!!
The Entertainment Quarter warrants rent .. peppercorn at that and guess who is responsible for that the Commonwealth Bank ..

Remember Kevin Rudd became opposition leader and he started on his travels then straight over to Murdoch.

    The Thorn..

        THE THORN

yes thorn this is what the public need to know about the corruption that is

rampant here in our beatiful land being destroyed and carved up amongst the moneymongers
what could be a wonderful life for all being destroyed before our eyes by the the major corporates aided and abetted by our so called prime minister
        JULIA GILLARD

i was going to say Kevin Rudd but Julia Gillard and the trades unions are more in control than he has ever been
He visits us now and again to sign what ever agreements have been reached while he has been away He has already spent $600000 dollars on travel in the first seven months and that doesnt include the rest of the front benches travelling expences to the USA Poland Japan Bali Indonesia China Malaysia

During the OLYMPICS Kevin Rudd Was in CHINA at the same time as Julia Gillard was in New Zealand on what she likes to term high level talks Wayne Swan was in China at the same time
Leaving fourth in command in control of our nation

Which at that point was being run by telephone and email YES FOLKS DADS ARMY WOULD LOOK LIKE THE SAS COMPARED WITH OUR NATIONS SO CALLED LEADERS IT WOULD BE INTERESTING TO SEE THE FIGURES OF THE TOTAL TRAVEL BILL FOR THIS YEAR FOR THE GOVERNING PARTY
We must have a massive reserve still after all our Prime Minister has just offered one billion dollars to Indonesia to help them out in their recovery from the financial crash

While thousands of our pensioners are suffering in agony with dental problems
which the government claims it has not enough finances to help
I FIRMLY BELIEVE WE ARE IN NEED OF AN ACCREDITATION SETUP FOR POLITICIANS HERE IN AUSTRALIA as i think that a quite a few are mentally challenged to use the correct polly talk

  • Roy :

    08 Dec 2008 9:28:17pm

Isee Foxtel and Sky news are planning to open a new tv network here in Australia

aided and abetted by Kevin Rudd

Isaid that when Rupert Murdoch wines and dines kevin Rudd his motives are far from good it's time that kevin Rudd realises he works for us Aussies not the giant corporates from America

it's time he started protecting our interests as Australian citizens
    within the Australian borders

stop this crap free trading garbage mentioned many times Rupert Murdoch
Wayne Swan is in China at the present time trying to sign Australia into another free trade agreement
How the hell can we free trade with a nation that pays its workers 78 cents per hour
An item takes 8 hours to produce

    Australia = 8 hours at $ 20 per hour =$160
    China = 8 hours at 78cents an hour =$6.24
    GET REAL AUSTRALIA
OUR FARMERS ARE PLOUGHING THEIR PRODUCE BACK INTO THE GROUND WHILE TONNES OF CRAP IRRADIATED RUBBISH ENDS UP IN THE SUPERMARKETS

But of course it sells or it would not be imported

it's time Australians started protecting their farmers by demanding to know where fruit and vegetables are sourced from even if it costs a little more the food will be fresh and not bombarded with uv and ir rays to keep it looking fresh.
Irradiation may kill the bacteria but does not remove the dead bacteria from the item

CROP is what the farmers produce

CRAP Is what emits from the mouths of our politicians
As Australians we want more homegrown crops
    and less government crap

Careful what you wish for Rupert...just think if the average Australian was well educated, they might realise that true democracy is dead in this country, that the fourth estate is a whore to it's commercial interests, and this 'Golden Age of Freedom' is the golden age of mass control, (sounds more like a catchry or excuse to be as selfindulgent as you like) ....besides...he ain't gonna live long enough to see it, though he obviously thinks otherwise....

      • Roy :

        09 Dec 2008 10:17:14am

        Yes ALEX you are correct

If the average Australian was educated into the 21st century level they would understand the evil of this man Rupert Murdoch
and he would never reach the level of ownership he has achieved

it was all built on the ignorance of our education system which has purposely been maintained at that level for control purposes
As a boss you are not going to employ someone smarter than yourself otherwise you could loose your business
to such intellegence So never allow the bovines to much education other wise they may get out of control and outsmart you CHEAP LABOUR requires little intellegence mostly robotic actions

WHICH OF COURSE IS THE WAY RUPERT GOES

DOWNSIZE SACK HUNDREDS AND EMPLOY COMPUTERS

In the Final Days man's brain will leave his hands idle

Sad that a 77 year old man can still be more interested in money than life

and is prepared to destroy lives to achieve his goal

A rich man is like a man who drinks salt water
The more he drinks the more he needs

The policy of the NEW WORLD ORDERis one world government
    one world parliament
    one bank (world bank)
    one army (the united nations)

Ask Kevin Rudd why he has signed an agreement twith the UK to put all funds from the carbon trading scam in the hands of the world bank
    WHY THE WORLD BANK ????????

what's wrong with Australian banks controlling Australian funds
    Let's ask another question

the emblem of the European Union
    is THE TOWER OF BABEL
THEIR MOTTO IS. MANY LANGUAGES ONE VOICE
Their headquarters have been designed to give the appearance of an unfinished building similar to THE TOWER OF BABEL which was purposely designed to give this appearance
the NEW WORLD ORDER has as it's logo a pyramid with an eye on the top they arrogantly display their power by inserting these logos wherever and whenever they can

So why is our parliament building in Canberra designed to give the appearance of an unfinished building.

WHY IS THE FLAGPOLE SO MASSIVE AND DESIGNED IN THE SHAPE OF A PYRAMID

Grow up Australia before you are just another number in the grip of the NEW WORLD ORDER.
As our nation goes deeper in debt we need to require more funds

Guess who will be offering the money
    THE WORLD BANK

and guess who will sign us up for it
    OUR GOVERNMENT

We will then be indebt to the NEW WORLD ORDER
look at our 5 dollar bill see how many pyramids you see See our unfinished parliament building on display

look at how many businesses have a pyramid logo as their emblem

LET HIM WHO HAS EYES SEE
LET HIM WHO HAS EARS LISTEN

We have it in our own hands to start to fight back against the Corporazzi. 1. Start by patronizing the small independently owned retailers, service stations, grocers, growers, farmers markets, bakers & butchers, 2. Refuse to shop at the huge shopping centres, intead shop at your local strip of shops. 3. Buy local. 4. Buy fruit & vegies IN SEASON.5. Don't buy at franchised stores - the profits go overseas. Bit by bit we can get it all back .

      • Roy :

        05 Dec 2008 6:46:17pm

        Yes Granny

We have it in our own hands to stop these disgusting thieving corporates
We need to buy AUSSIE ONLY but look around you at how many so called Aussies still support these legalised gangsters
        they have networked Australian business
were unless you are a member of one of these networks you cannot survive
so we need a network by using the two gets you four system

Australians need to be educated as to what is occurring around them

We are fortunate that we take an interest in our nation and we can see what is happening to us call two friends and tell them what is occurring. if they in turn call two friends two gets four four gets eight eight gets sixteen and soon the word spreads and eventually the truth will prevail if we want to stop earth warming it's simple lets cut out the corporates and return to a 5 day week where we can spend time with our families and give the earth a break for two days a week these thieving greedy corporates have absolutely no respect for GOD OR COUNTRY If we don't stand for GOD we stand for nothing Kevin Rudd has spent over $600000 travelling all over the world in the first seven months of power and achieved absolutely nothing for Australia except to bring us closer to THE NEW WORLD ORDER and total disaster for vAUSTRALIANS

At a time when upto 70% of the population, in Western nations, were against the attack on Iraq, Murdoch's newspaper titles (approx 75 in total) were, without exception, cheerleaders for the war. Of course, he was not alone in his minority position. Murdoch's fellow travellers were well represented. Not one word of objection was heard from the entire Coalition membership.
Murdoch's titles are engaged in a daily exercise of misinforming the public without the ABC giving him access to those who would not normally read his propaganda

This is Boyer I won't mind missing. Surely, adding to the to the scope of infuence of this odious character is as directed by the right wing ideologues on the ABC board.
Murdoch's effort at re-inventing himself is insulting to thnking people.

RN is my station of choice but if I hear Geraldine Doogue et al sing the praises of this two faced ideologue I shall have to
    desist.

How can Rupert Murdoch boast of his pride in Fox News ?
The following is typical of all Fox News in USA:

David Letterman, on ‘Late Show with David Letterman,’ Nov. 5 -

"At the end of the evening, the electoral vote count was 349 for Obama, 148 for McCain. Or, as Fox News says, ‘too close to call.’"

How can RM condemn Australian public education?
His papers backed the Howard Government 's blitz on it as funding went to needless competition, developing ghettoes which are breaking down our previously fair society.

How can the proprietor of so many trashy programs which consume young minds fail to acknowledge the power of his media in shaping young brains?

Bouquets to the same RM,however, for his funding of great journalists like Koch, Rothwell and Toohey, and the monthly Lit. Review.
(And his mother is a shining example of how to use wealth for the general good).

  • granny :

    29 Nov 2008 10:59:53am

Roy, I agree with you entirely, I do not want to have my grandchildrens' heads' filled with propaganda that the New World Order promulgates. They have been busy lately, defrauding the world economy of at least $5 trillion US Dollars.

  • Barry Parsons :

    27 Nov 2008 10:45:28pm

A Sad day for the Boyer lectures.. Rupert Murdoch should stick to his area of expertise which does not seem to be education. Anyone can watch a video about chinese education and repeat what it said about competition in education... And what is applicable to schools Murdoch favours with his wealth will not help underfunded public education.
Shame on you ABC for allowing this man on air to talk about something he does not know about.
The serious effect of all this is that
in the next days newspaper headlines appeared negative statements about Public education Say it often enough and everybody believes it and just accepts it.
Not good enough for a usually responsible ABC.

When is our nation going to wake up to these pieces of human garbage
that have only one interest in life MONEY
i said it previously and i say it again

when Rupert Murdoch talks about educating Australians his only interest is in privatising our schools and universities for profit
and the majority of the public cannot see the scam when he talks about industry playing a part in our education what he is saying is we want to control your childrens minds at an early age and we will brainwash them so that they will be an obedient workforce IF YOU DONT TOE THE LINE YOU WILL BE REFUSED A TRAINING COURSE AND WILL THERE FORE BE UNEMPLOYABLE

LOYOLA jULIUS head of the roman catholic jesuits said it all when
    he made the following statement
GIVE ME THE BOY UNTIL HE IS SEVEN AND I WILL GIVE YOU THE MAN

Yes folks give me your children until they are seven and i will brainwash them and give you a roman catholic for life

When big business offers to educate you
always ask what the old roman lawyers used to ask first off "QUI BONO" wHO STANDS TO GAIN a simple rule to follow but the most important one to follow the greatest terrorists in Australia are not outsiders but come from within our own ranks namely MURDOCH RUDD GILLARD SWAN
Who are continually undermining our family traditions and ways of life by destroying our moral standards

GROW UP AUSTRALIA AND PROTECT YOUR KIDS FROM THESE CANCERS THAT ARE EATING AWAY OUR NATION

    REFUSE INDUSTRIAL EDUCATION

REFUSE TO ALLOW OUR SCHOOLS IN THE HANDS OF BRAINWASHERS AND DICTATORS LIKE RUPERT MURDOCH

    AND HIS BAND OF THIEVES

THE ABC BELONGS TO THE PEOPLE

ASK MURDOCK OR RUDD TO PERMIT THIS LETTER IN ANY OF THE TV STATIONS HE OWNS

we give him air time so this is a democratic country so lets ask him to produce all our coments on his statios in reciprical agreement

BY THE WAY KEVIN when will you be returning home to Australia for your next holiday you've been gone a long time

Are you doing well in your new life in the USA is Rupert your next door neighbour

Write soon and let us all know how you are keeping

As the prime minister of AUSTRALIA

    maybe you are still learning

BUT FIRST LESSON IS YOU RUN AUSTRALIA FROM AUSTRALIA NOT THE USA WE DONT RUN THIS COUNTRY BY EMAIL OR TELEPHONE

    EITHER GOVERN OR GET OUT

It's a pity you didn't learn how to use punctuation at school, or spell "therefore".
Maybe you were picked on as a child, and that's why you're so PARANOID.
        You’re funny!.

          • Lanklan :

            25 Nov 2008 2:05:35pm

Well "widd", perhaps roys comment is somewhat melodramatic and polemical, the fundamental crux of his argument is entirely true.

It is hardly "paranoid" to suggest that Murdoch and other capitalists calls to privatise education and resources, embrace the free market etc. are purely in their own self interest. The more that private business has control over societies infrastructure the more they use it to satisfy their own thirst for capital. Take for example the privatisation of the public transport system in Melbourne by the Kennett government. Have we actually seen any increase in the quality of service provided by connex? Well no we havn't its worse than it ever has been with continual ticket price increases and overcrowding, and the tax payer is funding the transport system more now than they were prior to privatisation. Connex instead choose to allocate their resources on ticket inspectors to ensure the profitability of the ticket system and raise some revenue in fines in the process.

The education system is nothing more than a system of conditioning and indoctrination. Its purpose is to prepare the youth for being another cog in the system of the capitalist economy. To even suggest privatising public education is the true sign of a self interested moron. Where now the education system is used to preach the merits of liberal democracy to the youth, if we are to privatise it we will find ourselves with generations of self interested, greedy individuals who see our environment and poverty stricken people as mere resources, rather than serious social issues which are the result of the western worlds exploitation of this planet and labour resources.

you are more worried about my punctuation than the message it carries
or for that matter the moral standards of this country of ours that is being carved up amongst the Rupert Murdochs and his bunch of legalised gangsters
i see from the intellegence factor of your post that you qualify fully as a bovine in the new world order classification

the Murdochs call themselves the ELITE

                Dear Roy,

Your message is bordering on anarchistic, and in turn inapplicable in today's society. Are we all to believe hat we are sad and blinded pawns directed at the pleasure sadistic politicians or media moguls? Society and its idealism is a heavy boat, which finds it hard to change directions. The last year has seen a significant change towards a more compassionate and morally defensible Australian society.
Clearly you find it easy to tear things apart, but you should remember the context of the difficulty to build things up. I concur that schooling and education should not be privatised, but the message that Mr Murdoch seeks to deliver is the critical importance of education. If you wish to criticise please provide a workable solution.

              • Roy :

                ANDREW
Anarchist is your word PATRIOT IS MINE
No we are not all like you Andrew
We are not all bovines You have all the qualifications required by Rupert Murdoch
No knowledge about the subject in question
Subservient to any authority that speaks
                YOU SAID
Are we all to believe hat we are sad and blinded pawns directed at the pleasure sadistic politicians or media moguls

No not us all Andrew just you and the other bovines who think like you who are totally
brainwashed and manipulated on a daily basis by theiving corrupt politicians AND
                media moguls
I BET THAT you would not even be aware of the NEW WORLD ORDER or its infiltration into Australia
If Rupert Murdoch was so concerned about our education WHY THE SUDDEN CONCERN NOW AFTER BEING AN AMERICAN FOR SO MANY YEARS PREVIOUS

Answer is simple. Kevin Rudd was not in power before Rupert wined and dined him well before the elections

Go to YOU TUBE.COM key in NEW WORLD ORDER .and when you have read exactly what is occurring around you every day as David Rockefeller the Rothchilds the worlds major corporates line you up for your microchip insertion
you bovines of course will think that being microchipped will be wonderful
as you will not get lost or kidnapped because big brother will be protecting you from those nasty people

                most governments operate on the
                principle of
                THESIS - ANTITHESIS - SYNTHESIS

Create a problem Offer a solution

THEN PROVIDE THE EQUIPMENT TO CONTROL THE PROBLEM

Like Hitler who burnt his own parliament to the ground

blamed the offered the people more security against it happening again
enemy for the arson and then

The German citizens jumped at the offer and soon the Nazis were in control of the people and soon the jews were the first to be blamed for the problem and were all rounded up. we all know the rest of the story

              • Roy :

                12 Dec 2008 9:05:18pm

you think the microchip insertion in umans is fantasy it is already being inserted in young children in America under the principle of the fear factor

they tell the parents that their child could be kidnapped or get lost and if they do they can be traced in minutes rather than hours So there are thousands of gullible parents paying for their children to be tracked by big brother
Next year we will all be forced to accept the Smart Card which will have all our personal details on it BLOOD GROUP

                DRIVERS LICENCE NUMBER
                MEDICARE NUMBER BANK DETAILS

                ATM NUMBERS

our passports are now being electronically inserted with a microchip

                ANARCHIST I AINT
                PATRIOTIC I AM

Murdoch said recently that Fox News was the best thing he ever did. Among Americans, Fox News is seen as a propaganda diatribe of the most vicious kind. It peddles extreme, fascistic views by hysterical presenters. They have routinely descended to the worst elements of slander against the President Elect. They are still doing it. This digrace of a news chanel is the bloviating excrescence of Murdoch's mind. Why is he given a minute of our time? He and his mind and his views are a disgrace to the planet.

I've just sent the following to RN enquiries (the one where you can
    expect a response):

    Dear RN,

I can no longer bear the carpet-bombing of RN listeners with the
continual, at least hourly all day, advertisements for the foul
and self-serving pronouncements of the American Rupert Murdoch.

In all my 30-odd years of listening to RN, I can't recall any
advertising push of this magnitude for any programme, let alone
for the so-called "Big Ideas" of someone who already controls
most of the Australian media, and who most certainly does not
need this level of promotion by the once-independent ABC.

Why has the proud tradition of the Boyer Lectures of inviting a
"prominent Australian" been trashed by 'inviting' a man who long
ago repudiated his Australian citizenship to move to the centre
of the current world empire for his own greed and lust for power?

His ideas are very small .. individual conquest by climbing on
top of everyone else; ever-increasing consumption of the planet's
resources to satisfy transient and prurient desires, ever more
centralised control of governments by mega business interests,
better training for the slave classes to increase their output ..

These are the ideas of centuries gone by, when the rich could
still rule the world with no regard to the consequences for our
own species and habitat, let alone that of the millions of other
species with whom we share this singular and irreplaceable home.

This is absolutely shameful, and I'm staggered that Geraldine
Doogue could gush so enthusiastically about the competitive and
dog-eat-dog world that Murdoch espouses, in stark contrast to
her professed belief in equality and social justice? Perhaps
she's really of the opinion that one's worth equates to their
bank balance - or is it the attractiveness of alpha-male power?

So what's next? Commercial advertising? Some sort of alliance
with the Murdoch empire to fund the ABC? It doesn't look good.

    (Only just still) yours,

    Ian Smith

"ARBEIT MACHT FREI" meaning "Work Brings Freedom" Nobody who entered as a prisoner was ever set free.

Shame on you ABC for promoting this fascist lizard creature from hell and raising his status to some kind of social coach who's example we should follow.

What? You just realised? For years, our Tertiary education system has become a business to extract as much money as possible from overseas students and then handing out mass certificates that are worthless because the main aim is to profit and not to educate. It never used to be that way but became like that in the past 10 years or so. Also, something else to think about: People are paying so much to get an education on an industry which is rendered useless within years of graduation. The change in the business world is so quick and so vast that it makes you wonder if it really was worth getting a degree now that you are flipping burgers at the local burger store. So, is education stil education or is it something that has become a waste of time?

Dear Dicom, are you joking or are you blind?
Dear old Mr. Murdoch is nothing but a smart ruthless businessman; he shows no conscience or honor in his dealings; he is dedicated to building a media empire with the purpose of manipulating public opinion towards the Establishment’s miserable ideology of cold market globalization privatization and deregulation, the philosophy of blind selfishness that for the last thirty years has driven us to this present meltdown.
Mr. Murdoch is the propagandist for the neocoms’ “American Century Project” for United States Hegemony over the World, whose negative features we have seen during the last ten years; he wants Australia to join NATO !! He is a despot, this is the evidence: – 99% of the 700 editors of his media empire have endorsed the illegal invasion of Iraq, it is not a coincidence; therefore Mr. Murdoch has blood on his hands and is a participant or accomplice in the crimes against International laws; moreover he is a capitalist economy fundamentalist that has used the Media to erase deride or denigrate any idea of more Humane and ecologically sound alternatives; all exit doors have been bricked up; he has endeavored and succeeded in convincing the general public that there are no alternatives to the present system, he is so clever in business but so dumb that he does not realize that it is the ideology of the capitalist nationalistic competitive global market, unbridled development, thoughtless consumerism, infinite duplication of products and waste that has brought no Human happiness but the situation that promotes the worst features of the Human Condition and the destruction of the environment that was favorable to Human Evolution.
The freedom Mr. Murdoch is talking about is the freedom of business and corporations to rule roughshod over everybody else’s freedoms using the Media to keep the majority of the public in a state of stupor.
I was surprised at the eagerness of the ABC presenter in presenting this person, but I was shocked to see the general enthusiastic applause that he received from those who were present: the inane ranting of worn out platitudes from an inarticulate old man; heaven protect us.

I watched most of the speech and I must confess it made me genuinely sad. This one man had an opportunity to have an impact on the world in ways that very few ever have or ever will. He had the choice to act in the best interests of us all, or to work for his own interests and those of a select few. It's unfortunate that I don't have to spell out which road I believe he chose, because it's clearly evident. In a world that is very quickly running out of chances Rupert could have been one of its shining hopes. If there is a God then I suspect some very serious questions will be asked of Mr Murdoch when his day comes...

I agree that the choice of Rupert Murdoch to present this year's Boyer Lecture was more than a little too much to bear.

As several others have noted, this man has a global network of media organisations at his disposal to disseminate his right-wing social, economic and political views.

He certainly does not need yet another voice in the media (and especially one which is meant to serve the public good and give a voice to those who don't have one) giving time to the outdated and discredited ideas that he shares with countless other wealthy, conservative powerbrokers both here and abroad.

I would urge the ABC to stick with what it does best and promote the common good through quality, unbiased and meaningful journalism, rather than provide even more opportunity to those who already have their opinions heard in such a disproportionate fashion.

I can see it now: Rupert doing one of those 'Kill the idle paupers who are getting 'welfare' because they're unemployed or disabled' stories that TT just loves. Oh, God forbid that there should be idleness! There Murdoch stands in the ruins of his freemarket madness and still he's preaching to the unwashed and the unrighteous. He's an American so why doesn't he go and help them fix the mess he and all the other billionaires have created there? We don't need him here and we don't like preachers. That's because we tend to be Communists and heathens - and rather proud of it too. As D.H. Lawrence said of Australia ; 'This is the most democratic country I've ever been in and I can't wait to get out of it'. Murdoch's entire Boyer lectures could be boiled down to that one sentence - but he could never write anything so witty and ironic.

Firstly, thanks to all who have made it possible for myself and others to hear Rupert Murdoch speak his mind on matters concerning Australia's and I guess Humanity's future directions. I also congratulate Mr Murdoch on having the guts to express his convictions to a large audience without fear of potential ridicule and condemnation.

However, I did think that Mr Murdoch was speaking at me rather than to me. No doubt a style of communication that has placed him in the societal position he is in today. The temper of his words seem to originate from the narrow confinds of a strictly materialistic view of the world and give little room for the deeper human concerns such as the spiritual which must be weaved into our plans if humanity is going to continue successfully into the future. Such profound considerations will help provide for the human yearning for True meaning and understanding of our existence in this universe.

I also hope that a question and answer session is provided at the end of Mr Murdochs last lecture. In fact, I believe that the lecture organisers should have provided for a question and answer session at the end of each lecture. Such a provision would help counteract the dictatorial style that these lectures portray.

True communication works best when it is two way instead of the one way discourse that we are enduring with in the delivery of these lectures. That said, I look forward to listening critically to Rupert Murdochs views in the coming weeks.

Every worker, especially every union member, in Aus needs to understand what Murdoch is up to.

Google disaster capitalism and you get the idea.

    Join the dots:
Neocons . Milton Friedman . Chicago School economics . privatise public assets and services . smaller government . heavy cuts to social programs . equals philosophy of Cato Institute . patronised by Murdoch . equals goodbye democracy and what public assets we still have.

The corporate economic model is called Trickle-down economics.

The theory: if taxes are cut for high income earners they will invest more in business infrastructure and equity markets. As a result, goods will lower in price and create more jobs for the middle and lower classes.

It never happened. It was a delusion, in the US, Australia and elsewhere.

Orchestrated raids by corporate entities on the public sphere is Disaster Capitalism. Murdoch is here to spruik his version of capitalism. He can call it what he likes: neoliberal, crony, savage. The fact remains it is a scam.

I listened to Murdoch on Sunday night.

An alarm bell sounded when he said “Australia is a frontier country”. In the theory of disaster capitalism advanced by author Naomi Klein, frontier country has a very specific connotation:

Under Chicago School economics, the STATE (national government and its assets) acts as the colonial frontier, which corporate conquistadors pillage with the same ruthless determination and energy as their predecessors showed when they hauled back home the gold and silver from the Andes. . . Wall Street saw green field opportunities in . . . Russia’s oil fields, US public airwaves, Poland’s factories, etc.

Please check for yourself. Do not allow corporate empire to fog this issue.

And he still doesnt drop the pretext and metaphor. Taking a stab at public schools he never attended and the freedoms of people he no longer has an affinity for, and then he wraps it all in a nice idea like "Golden Age of Freedom".

A true golden age of freedom for Australia would exist when a handful of people didn't control a majority of the media.
