Biography
- Petro Georgio was elected to the seat of Kooyong in 1994.
- He was born on the island of Corfu, Greece and moved to Australia at the age of four.
- He holds an Honours Degree in Political Science from the University of Melbourne.
- He worked as a Senior Adviser to former Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser, and went on to help establish SBS.
- Prior to entering Federal Parliament, he was also Secretary of the Ethnic television Review Panel, and the Director of the Australian Institute of Multicultural Affairs.
Electorate Information
- Kooyong covers 49 sq.km of inner eastern metropolitan electorate.
- It is named for an Aboriginal word meaning 'resting place'.
- In existence since Federation, Kooyong has had only six members, all from the conservative side of politics.
- Past members include three former conservative leaders, Sir John Latham (1922-34), Sir Robert Menzies (1934-66) and Andrew Peacock (1966-94).
Parliamentary Service
- Elected to the House of Representatives for Kooyong, Victoria, at by-election on 19.11.1994, vice the Hon. AS Peacock (resigned). Re-elected 1996, 1998, 2001, 2004 and 2007.
