Biography
- John Faulkner has been a Senator for New South Wales since 1989.
- He was educated in the public school system and at Macquarie University, and was a member of the Macquarie University Council from 1984 until 1992.
- He worked as a specialist teacher of children with severe disabilities for four years, and then as a research officer for the NSW Minister for Sport and Recreation.
- He joined the ALP as a teenager and has held various party positions including Assistant General Secretary, NSW branch of the ALP (1980-1989); delegate, NSW Annual Conference (since 1975); delegate, National Conference (since 1982); and member, ALP National Executive (since 1989).
- He was Leader of the Opposition in the Senate from 1998 until 2004.
Parliamentary Service
- Chosen by the Parliament of New South Wales on 4.4.1989 under section 15 of the Constitution to represent that State in the Senate, vice the Hon. AT Gietzelt (resigned) (term ended 30.6.1993). Elected 1993 (term began 1.7.1993), 1998 and 2004.
