Lucy Gallup (QLD)

Lucy Gallup was born in Salisbury, England and began learning the harp aged 6. She later attended the Junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama where in 1994 she won 2nd place in the prestigious Lutine Prize Competition.

She was awarded a Foundation Scholarship to study with Fiona Hibbert at the Royal College of Music where she gained her Bmus (Hons) in 2000. In her third year she won the UK Harp Association prize for solo performance. Solo freelance work in London included performances for HRH Princess Anne at St James' Palace.

For the final semester of her degree, she was selected to go on exchange to the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University where she gained her MMusSt with High Distinction. During this time she performed Debussy's Danse sacrée et danse profane for 4MBS Festival of Classics with the Conservatorium Orchestra.

Since graduating in 2001 she has pursued her passion for orchestral music, performing regularly with The Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and The Queensland Orchestra, as guest Principal and Second Harp. Other Principal freelance work has included performances with The Royal Ballet (Sydney and Brisbane), The English National Ballet, Hungarian Opera Company, and Grammy Award winner Kanye West supporting U2's 2006 tour of Australia.

In 2006/2007 she has performed as a soloist in the Brisbane City Hall Classical Lunchtime Recital series, given a duo recital with Queensland Orchestra Concertmaster Warwick Adeney for Chamber Music QLD, and appeared as guest artist performing Ravel's Introduction and Allegro with chamber group Collusion. In 2004 she featured at the Bangalow Music festival playing the Debussy Trio for Flute, Viola and Harp with Tim Munro and Brett Dean, and gave a number of performances with Southern Cross Soloist Tania Fraser.
